The losing party must fulfill a predetermined obligation to the winner. In practice "bet" is frequently used as a synonym of "wager".
What bet types does Fonbet offer?
Fonbet accepts bets on over 20 different sports, from football and hockey, to cycling and darts. Each type of sport has similar and unique selections.
In football and ice hockey, most bets are settled on the basis of regular match time. Points scored during injury time, penalty or other shootouts do not count.
Match results
Match results are bets on how matches end: either a win or draw. The first team winning is indicated by the number 1, the second team winning is indicated by the number 2, and a draw is indicated by the letter X.
You bet on 1 in the Bayern — Leipzig match. In the match name, Bayern comes first. That means that you bet on Bayern to win the match.
Double chance
A double chance is a bet on two of the three outcomes of a match:
- 1X: the first team wins or a draw
- X2: the second team wins or a draw
- 12: one of the teams wins
You bet on 12 in the Liverpool — Chelsea match. For the bet to win, Liverpool or Chelsea need to win, but it does not matter which team. Only one match outcome will result in the bet losing: a draw.
Total
Total bets are placed on the total number of points scored. When betting on a total, the betting company offers several final match totals to choose from. You bet on the match total, whether it will be more or less than the proposed value.
You bet on a total over 4.5 in the Tampa Bay Lightning — Montreal Canadians match. For the bet to win, the teams must score 5 or more goals during regular time.
If the type of total is not specified, then the type of sport must be taken into account:
- football and hockey: goals
- tennis: games or sets
- table tennis: sets
- MMA and boxing: rounds
- basketball: points
- volleyball: points
- billiards: frames
Totals can be general or individual. When betting on a general total, the sum of the points scored by both match participants is taken into account. However, for an individual total, only the points scored by a specific participant are counted.
For example, in tennis, the general total is the number of games played, and the individual total is the amount of games won.
Handicap
A handicap is a bet on one team winning taking into account a given advantage. The handicap value is added to the final score, after which the bet is settled. If the selected team wins taking into account the handicap, then the bet wins, but if they lose, the bet also loses.
You bet on Barcelona winning with a handicap of -1.5 in a match against Alavés. The match ends with a score of 2:0 in favour of Barcelona. Now add -1.5 to the number of goals scored by Barcelona:
-1.5 + 2 = 0.5
Taking the handicap into account, the match ended 0.5:0 in favour of Barcelona. The bet won.
What types of bets does Fonbet accept?
All bets in Fonbet are divided into three types: Single, Multiple and System.
Single
These are single bets. Whether they win or lose depends entirely on the results of the selected event. The winnings are equal to the bet amount multiplied by the odds.
- You bet EUR 10 on a single event with odds of 2.00.
- The bet will win if the selected outcome was predicted correctly.
- Your potential winnings are: 10 × 2.00 = EUR 20.
Multiple
Multiples are bets on multiple events: from 2 to 30. Multiple bets win if all selected outcomes were predicted correctly. Multiple winnings are equal to the bet amount multiplied by all of the individual odds.
- You bet EUR 10 on a Multiple with three events, all with odds of 2.00.
- Your bet wins if all three outcomes are predicted correctly.
- Your potential winnings: 10 × 2.00 × 2.00 × 2.00 = EUR 80.
System
System bets are bets on several events with insurance. You can add from 3 to 16 events to the bet slip and choose the System size. The size determines how many selections in the bet slip must win for the bet to win. For example, the size "3 out of 6" means that if 3 out of 6 events in the System win, the bet wins. System winnings are calculated depending on the number of correctly predicted outcomes. For more information on System bets, check out
our article
.- You add 5 events to the bet slip with three system type bets.
- The size of the System is "3 out of 5".
- This size ("3 out of 5") means that if three outcomes are predicted correctly, your bet will win. If more than three outcomes were predicted correctly, then the winnings will be greater.
How did betting originate?
Betting came about when humans first started living in societies. One of the most ancient bets was a dispute between Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, and the Roman consul, Mark Antony. Cleopatra bet Mark that she could drink 10 million Roman sesterces worth of wine in just one dinner. To win, the queen dissolved a large black pearl, which cost a lot of money, in wine vinegar, and drank the solution. In the end, Mark Antony acknowledged that Cleopatra won.
In 2000, two gerontologists, Stephen Ostad and Jay Olshansky, argued over the human lifespan. Olshansky claims that at least one person born in 2000 will live 150 years, but Ostad believes that the maximum is 130 years. From the start of the bet, both participants deposited $150 into a special account at 9% per annum. After the death of scientists, the account will go to their descendants, and the winner will receive the entire amount.
