Both Teams to Score

Both Teams To Score is a bet on each team scoring at least one goal in a match. Note that the outcome of the match isn't important: it can end in a draw, or with either team winning.

It also is not important who scores. If both teams score own goals, the event is still considered to have taken place.

What types of Both Teams to Score bets are there?

There are two types of bets marked with the options Yes and No in Sports. The Yes option wins if both teams score, and the No option wins if the meeting ends with a score of 0:0 or one of the teams wins with a shutout victory.
For example, you place a bet on "Both Teams to Score – Yes" in the Chelsea – Manchester United match. The game ends with a score of 1:1, so the bet wins.

The next time you bet on "Both Teams to Score – No" in the Pittsburgh Penguins – Ottawa Senators match. The match ends with Pittsburgh winning 2:0. The bet wins again.

Which bets can be used as an alternative to Both Teams to Score?

There are several options. That differ based on odds.
Combo bets
Betting companies offer bets on the goals of both teams in combo bets. For the bet to win, an additional condition is required, such as match results or the point total.
The more conditions, the higher the risk, so the odds for a combo bet to win is higher than 2.00.
Examples of combo bets with Both Teams to Score (BTS):
  • BTS and Draw: wins if the teams both score an equal number of points.
  • BTS and Team 1 Wins: wins if the teams both score, and the home team wins.
  • BTS and Match Total under 2.5: wins if the teams both score, but no more than a total of 2 points.

Bet on a certain team scoring

This event involves only a small degree of risk. The bet wins if both teams score and only the selected team scores.
You place a bet on the Chelsea – Tottenham match for the away team to score a goal. The match ends 1:0 in favour of Tottenham, so your bet wins.
One disadvantage of this option is low odds. For example, in a match between Chelsea and Tottenham, you can bet on Both Teams to Score for 1.88, or on Tottenham scoring for 1.58.

No Team Scores bet
The bet only wins if the match ends 0:0. Such a small chance of winning means odds will be high. They are significantly higher than the "Both Teams to Score – No" bet, where a shutout victory is also acceptable. For example, in the match of the English Premier League match between Tottenham and Arsenal, odds are 6x higher: 2.08 compared to 12.50.
Only one team scores
You do not have to select which. All that matters is that the losing team did not score against the winning team.
One specific team scores
The odds on a goal of only one team increase, if you choose which club will score. For example, in the Brighton – Crystal Palace match, odds are 2.45 for a shutout victory of either team, but they are 3.60 for a shutout Brighton win.
At least one team does not score

How to place a Both Teams to Score bet?

Choose matches in tournaments you bet on most often
All the major European football leagues are suitable. For less popular tournaments, you should look at the statistics first. Select tournaments where the bet wins in 50% of matches or more. For example, in the 2021 Belarusian championship, the bet only won in 43% of matches. Betting in this tournament is risky.
To search for a reliable championship, check out different services with statistics.
Data is mostly published in paid analytical services, but you can also find similar free services as well. For example, a great service for football stats is soccerstats.com.
Stats for Both Teams to Score
Data on the frequency of this bet winning in the championships can be found in the Leagues section, BTS column (both teams scored). Data filter available from highest to lowest
In terms of the major football championships, this bet wins most often in Serie A (59% of matches). It wins least often in La Liga (50% of matches).
Bet more often on teams that often score and are scored on
Some people consider the team's goal average when choosing matches. This figure includes goals scored and goals conceded. Players assume that bets on Both Teams to Score are more likely to win on teams with a high goal average.
Generally speaking, there is a correlation, but there are also exceptions.
For example, in the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, Schalke was in the top 5 teams in terms of goal average. On average, the team scored and conceded 3.3 goals per match. However, the bet on Both Teams to Score only won in 41% of Schalke's matches. The bet won even less often in Bielefeld matches (just 35%).
So take into account the average goals scored and conceded by the team, but also other data separately. Look for teams that have an aggressive offense, but also a reliable defence.
To simplify your search, use the statistics of bets on both teams scoring. This information is available on the official websites of tournaments, 24score and soccerstats.com.
Consider the match venue
Consider if the club is playing at home or away. In the 2019/20 Premier League, Chelsea was in the top 6 in terms of the bet winning, both scoring and conceding points in 58% of games. However, at
Stamford Bridge
, the bet only won in 37% of matches, but in 79% of away games.

Consider the status of teams
Always compare teams by style and level of play. Even in a match with the team where the bet wins with the highest frequency can end with the opponent scoring 0. For example, if the opponent is a much lower level and unable to pose a threat during counterattacks.
In the 2020/21 Serie A season, Sassuolo, a team from the championship's top 10, had the highest win percentage for Both Teams to Score. However, in both matches against Benevento, Sassuolo won with a score of 1:0 to avoid being eliminated.
Check additional indicators
Sometimes, the teams where the bet on goals scored by both teams wins the most, play differently than statistics might suggest.
In the 2020/21 Premier League season, this bet won most often in Manchester United and West Ham matches. The bet also won in the team's first head-to-head match. So it was logical to assume they would exchange goals in the second match. However, the match actually ended 1:0 in favour of Manchester United. A review of Manchester United statistics in recent games could have helped insure against a bad bet on Both Teams to Score. Prior to the match with West Ham, the team played 3 matches with no points in a row.
To increase the probability of the bet winning, consider:
  • Statistics of recent games.
If a team has a series of matches with no points either offensively or defensively, bet with caution. Try to find out what is going on first. Major changes could have taken place in the team that could have a long-term impact on results. For example, the team got a new coach and fixed the team's defence issues, so the team started to concede points less often. Or maybe the team has been matched consistently against much stronger or weaker teams. That means the stats will soon return to normal.
  • Motivation.
This is a seriously influential factor that often affects gameplay. For example, if a team that scores and concedes a lot is playing its final match in the championship with nothing riding on it, the players may not play their hardest. Due to a lackluster offensive, there will be fewer mistakes in defence, so the team will not score or concede points.
  • List of injured players.
There are often clear leaders in a team's offence or defence. So if they are not playing, the team's performance will change for the worse. For example, if a high-scoring team with good defence has an injured main central defender, so they may concede more than usual. This is a good chance to bet on Both Teams to Score.
Be careful about betting on both teams scoring in cup matches
Regular season games are better suited for this bet because it's easier to find statistics and identify patterns for them.
But in cup matches, the team lineup, style of play and motivation often change. Just a single game can ruin the chances of advancing in the tournament, so teams play more carefully and score and concede points less often. In international cups, there are clubs that have rarely played against each other, or are even playing their first ever head-to-head match. Assessing their chances of both scoring is much more difficult.

Both Teams to Score betting strategy

These bets can be used as part of a strategy with a series of consecutive bets that helps increase the likelihood of winning. The most popular strategy is "chasing".
Both Teams to Score chasing in football
Chasing is a strategy where players bet on the same event and increase the bet amount with each loss. The strategy ends when the bet wins.
The essence of the strategy is to bet consistently on "Both Teams to Score – No", and in the event of a loss, increase the bet amount based on the formula:
S = (X + Y) ÷ (k - 1)
S – bet amount
X – estimated winnings from the first bet
Y – amount lost during the strategy
k – odds of the selected event

In football and hockey, the "Both Teams to Score – No" bet in most cases has higher odds than the "Yes" option, often above 2.00. This just happens to be odds that are a good fit for the chasing strategy.
In the chasing formula, the lower the odds, the higher the bet amount: this is how the strategy recoups losses and turns a profit in the long run. Therefore, it is dangerous to include a bet with low odds in the strategy. After several losses in a row, the bet amount can grow tenfold, which will lead to you losing your bank.
  • Choose a popular championship and find a team with a low win rate for "Both Teams to Score – Yes". It is best to choose teams that score and are scored on in no more than 40% of matches.
  • Place bets with odds of at least 2.00.
  • If you lose, bet on the same event again, increasing the amount according to the formula.
We suggest betting on popular championships. There are more statistics on them, so it is harder to make a mistake when choosing a team. Remember, chasing involves a series of bets, so you need to consider the bet limit. In top championships, it is always higher than in less popular leagues.
Keep odds around 2.00. If it drops to 1.90 on a bet you want to place, you can still place it. Before you do, it is worth evaluating the size of your bank and calculating how much money you can bet while maintaining the same odds. Only place the bet if your bank has enough in reserve.
If the team you want does not have odds higher than 1.90 several matches in a row, choose another team with the same low win rate of Both Teams Score.
Chasing is best for players with a large bank. It helps turn a profit in the long run, but you need to be prepared for the fact that a losing streak can drag on.
