A variation of Dutch betting is known as Danish betting. In Danish betting, after each loss, the player increases the odds of the event as well, but doesn't double the amount, instead increasing it in arithmetic progression (for example, adds the first bet amount to each subsequent bet).
Dutch betting example
- You bet EUR10 on an event with odds of 1.50. Thebet loses.
- You double the amount and place EUR20 onanevent with higher odds: 1.80. Thisbet loses aswell.
- You double the amount again and place EUR40 onanevent with odds of2.00. Thebet wins andyou earn EUR80.
Net winnings: 10. To calculate it, we deducted all the money wagered from the winnings: 80 - (40 + 20 + 10) = 10.

How is Dutch betting different from chasing?
Chasing is a betting strategy where the player increases the amount bet after each loss. The amount of winnings compensates for the amount lost and puts you in the black. It differs from Dutch betting in that the odds don't increase with each bet, and the bet amount increases based on the formula. This difference is both positive and negative in terms of Dutch betting.
The negative element is that you have to increase the odds
And the higher the odds, the less likely the bet will win. After several losses, you risk getting into a long losing streak, and the more bets are lost, the riskier the strategy becomes.
The plus side is that you don't need a large bank
The bet amount always doubles and doesn't depend on the odds. When chasing, the bet amount depends on the odds: if it's less than 2.00, then the amount is more than doubled.
What's better, chasing or Dutch betting?
It depends on your bank size. If you have less than EUR 1,000 in your account, then in most cases it's better to choose Dutch betting. If your bank size is sufficient, then go with chasing. This strategy is less risky and lets you manage odds in the event of a long losing streak.
Let's calculate how the bet amount grows with chasing and Dutch betting. The first bet amount is EUR 10 with odds of 1.60. There will be 5 stages in the strategy.
Dutch betting
Bet number | Odds | Amount |
|---|---|---|
1 | 1.60 | 10 |
2 | 2.00 | 20 |
3 | 2.50 | 40 |
4 | 3.00 | 80 |
5 | 3.50 | 160 |
Using Dutch betting, you bet EUR 310. And the odds of our bets increased from 1.60 to 3.50. The chances of winning a bet with odds of 3.50 are 28%.
Chasing
Bet number | Odds | Amount |
|---|---|---|
1 | 1.60 | 10 |
2 | 3.00 | 13 |
3 | 2.50 | 26 |
4 | 2.00 | 65 |
5 | 1.20 | 650 |
Using the chasing strategy, you bet EUR 764. You chose the odds on your own, so the fifth bet only had 1.20. The losing streak was dragging on, so you decided to choose a bet with a high chance of winning to finish the strategy and get a win. The probability of a bet with odds of 1.20 winning is 83%, although you also could have chosen lower odds, as the strategy let's you do this.
