With a victory over Spain, the Greek National Team celebrated first place in the group, prevailing 90–86 after a thrilling game. Leading the way was Giannis Antetokounmpo with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists.
Both teams entered the court determined to win, as the Spaniards were playing for their “survival” in the tournament and the Greeks for the top spot in the group. The game was balanced in the opening minutes, with both sides knocking down three-pointers one after another. The pace was high, and the Greek National Team pulled ahead with two consecutive triples from the unstoppable Dorsey in the 7th minute, making it 27–14.
Spanoulis’ team, backed by their fans in the packed “Spyros Kyprianou” arena, extended the lead to +15 at 19’ with 50–35, which was also the halftime score.
La Roja raised their tempo in the third quarter and cut the margin to -4 at 25’. Greece still stayed ahead, and with another Dorsey three-pointer in the 28th minute, they made it 64–54.
At 32’, Saint-Supéry tied the game with a three-pointer, and Giannis put Greece back ahead 72–71 with a free throw the next minute. Spain went up 73–72, but Papapetrou immediately answered with a three-pointer (75–73).
The finale was spectacular, with constant lead changes and back-and-forth action. Both teams fought hard on every possession.
