Who are the top basketball players?
The FIBA EuroBasket offers unforgettable excitement to fans, thanks to players who have etched their names in history with golden letters. Stars who give their all to represent their countries—just like those we’ll see in Limassol between August 28 and September 4 at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center.
Today, we’ll take a look at the ten top scorers of all time in the tournament, which becomes more competitive with every edition. This list includes the legendary Nikos Galis, Tony Parker, Dirk Nowitzki, and Pau Gasol.
In 10th place, we find two players: the “Dragon” of the Greek national team, Panagiotis Giannakis, and Czechoslovakian Stanislav Kropilak, each with 769 points in 58 and 55 appearances, respectively.
In 9th place is Yugoslav Radivoj Korać with 844 points in 34 games. His name was used for a FIBA competition for many years. He won two silver medals (1961, 1965) and one bronze (1963) in the four editions he participated in.
8th place belongs to Spain’s Emiliano Rodríguez, with 864 points in 55 games. Despite playing in seven tournaments from 1959 to 1971, he’s the only player on the list who never won a medal.
In 7th place is his compatriot Juan Antonio San Epifanio, with 889 points in 58 games. He celebrated two medals with Spain—a silver in 1983 and a bronze in 1991.
6th place goes to Miki Berkovich from neighboring Israel, with 917 points in 51 appearances across seven different editions. He earned only one medal—a silver in 1979.
5th place is held by Kamil Brabenec of Czechoslovakia, who scored 948 points in 62 appearances. He won one silver medal (1985) and two bronzes (1977, 1981).
The top four players have each scored more than 1,000 points.
In 4th place is Nikos Galis. The legendary Greek international scored 1,030 points in just 33 games (a 31.2 point-per-game average). A top scorer in four EuroBaskets, Galis averaged 37 points at the 1987 EuroBasket in Athens and 35.6 points at the 1989 tournament in Zagreb, where Greece won the silver medal.
3rd place goes to German superstar Dirk Nowitzki, an NBA champion and global basketball icon. He scored 1,052 points in 49 appearances but won only one medal—silver in 2005, when Germany lost to Greece in the final.
In 2nd place is Frenchman Tony Parker with 1,104 points in 68 games. The San Antonio Spurs legend won a gold medal (2013), a silver (2011), and two bronzes (2005, 2015)
And in 1st place is Pau Gasol, who scored 1,183 points in 58 games for Spain. In seven appearances, he earned three gold medals (2009, 2011, 2015), two silvers (2003, 2007), and two bronzes (2001, 2017).
Most active players today are far from reaching this remarkable top ten. However, names like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokić, and Luka Dončić may climb this list in the future. Whether they succeed remains to be seen—at the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket 2025!
