The 2026 World Cup is approaching, and already 34 countries have secured their participation

The 2026 World Cup is approaching, and the picture of the teams that will take part is beginning to take shape. After the latest qualifications of Germany and the Netherlands, the number of countries that have secured a spot in the tournament has reached 34. The tournament will be held across three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — and it will be the first in history with an expanded number of participants, as a total of 48 national teams will take part.
The increase in available spots gives more countries the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of the World Cup, while also creating greater competition and more chances for surprises. So far, the host nations have automatically secured their presence, while from Europe several major powers have already qualified, such as England, France, Portugal, Croatia, Norway, the Netherlands, and Germany. From South America, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay, and Ecuador will participate, continuing the tradition of a continent that has delivered some of football’s most legendary moments.
Asia also has strong representation, with Japan, Iran, Australia, South Korea, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia having already booked their place. From Africa, the list includes nations with tradition and strength, such as Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, South Africa, and Cape Verde. Finally, New Zealand will represent Oceania.
Fourteen spots remain to complete the puzzle of the 48 teams, with the group stage draw scheduled for December. The tournament will kick off on June 11 and conclude with the grand final on July 19. Interest is rising as fans wait to see which countries will complete the global lineup and who will manage to write history in the planet’s brightest football event.
