Through the words of Konstantinos Simitzis, the approach of the international basketball players for the first historic participation of the Cyprus National Team in EuroBasket is revealed. “We feel great joy and honor that we are given this great opportunity to represent Cyprus in the biggest European national team tournament,” he emphasizes.
As is known, our country is participating in the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 as the host of Group C, whose games will take place from August 28 to September 4 at the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center.
“There is great enthusiasm and anticipation from everyone in the team — players, coaches, and management. We work every day with the purpose of becoming better and presenting ourselves as ready as possible for this great challenge,” highlights the 30-year-old (12/08/1995), 1.84m guard.
For the past two years, Simitzis has been playing for Petrolina AEK, while in the previous two seasons he was with APOEL. He also played in Greece for Mandraikos, Koropi, Niki Amarousiou, Peristeri, Korinthos, and Oiakas Nafpliou.
In Cyprus’s group, Greece, Spain, Italy, Georgia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina will take part — teams with considerable talent and quality. Our internationals received a clear message about the high level of the competition also through the friendly games held a few days ago, within the framework of the ECOMMBX Cup, playing against Serbia and Israel.
“I believe that these two high-level friendlies helped us get a taste of what will follow and how great the competition is,” notes Simitzis and adds: “It was also an opportunity to see what we can improve as a team in the final days of our preparation for the main phase.”
