The hosting of FIBA EuroBasket 2025 is expected to bring multiple economic benefits to the Republic of Cyprus. Cyprus becomes the smallest country by area ever to undertake this premier basketball competition, strengthening its position in the field of sports tourism.
The importance of the tournament is twofold for Cyprus: both as a major sporting event and as a driver of economic and tourism development. Hosting the FIBA EuroBasket constitutes a strategic opportunity to enhance our country’s international image and to create a sustainable legacy for future generations.
The investments implemented within the framework of the tournament, most notably the upgrade of the Spyros Kyprianou Athletic Center in Limassol, where all Group C games will take place, will yield economic benefits estimated between thirteen and seventeen million euros in total economic impact.
Cyprus will welcome thousands of visitors who, apart from significantly boosting tourism and local business activity, will also promote our country among their compatriots.
Moreover, there is the television and online coverage, as Cyprus will “enter” an audience of around 300 million viewers worldwide, securing international exposure of inestimable value!
Added to the above is, of course, the know-how gained by Cyprus and its society, as hundreds of Cypriots, both as staff and volunteers, acquire critical experiences that will prove useful for the future in dozens of areas related to organizing major events.
