The big moment everyone is waiting for is approaching.
Hosting FIBA EuroBasket 2025 in Cyprus is an unprecedented experience for everyone, with the matches of Group C to be held at the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Center from August 28 to September 4.
Undoubtedly, the participation of our national team in such a major tournament — for the first time in its history — will also be an invaluable experience. As a result, our international basketball players are strongly feeling these unique moments.
“It’s a great honor for all of us. It’s something unprecedented for Cyprus and of course for us athletes. We’ve never experienced anything like this before,” says Zeid Muosa, who also brings the fans into the equation, expanding on the possibility of a major victory: “We expect a lot from the fans, and they expect a lot from us. We’ll try to achieve a big win that will give us a huge boost.”
Zeid Muosa is a 22-year-old forward, 1.99m tall, who played for Anorthosis between 2022 and 2024, and before that was part of Olympiacos Piraeus. Last season, he competed in the league of Iraq — his country of origin — from where he moved to Cyprus at a young age. His first international appearance came in the 2019/20 season as a member of Cyprus’ U16 National Team.
For the internationals, it is extremely important to have the opportunity to wear the national jersey — even more so in a tournament of this caliber, as emphasized by Giorgos Tretiakov.
“Regardless of the competition, representing your country is a great honor. Now imagine — it’s EuroBasket, a huge tournament that has never before taken place in Cyprus,” he says, adding: “So, it’s something that makes me very happy, and I feel lucky to be part of this journey.”
Tretiakov also highlights the fact that participating in FIBA EuroBasket 2025 is an opportunity for Cyprus basketball fans to witness historic moments. “I hope the fans truly experience it. It’s not something you get to live every day. The fans are like the sixth player — they can really help the team, and they’ll also have the chance to see players we don’t usually see in Cyprus.”
Giorgos Tretiakov is a 24-year-old small forward, 1.95m tall, who will play for Keravnos Strovolou in the 2025/26 season. Between 2018 and 2021, he played for Omonia, where he also served as captain. From 2021 to 2023, he played for Achilleas Kaimakliou, again as team captain. During the 2023–2025 period, he played for Anorthosis Ammochostou. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Men’s National Team and is also a key player for the Cyprus 3x3 National Team.
It is reminded that Cyprus will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Group C opener on August 28 (18:15), and on Saturday, August 30 (18:15), they will play — for the first time in an official match — against Greece. After that, they will face reigning champions Spain (31/08, 18:15), Georgia (02/09, 18:15), and Italy (04/09, 18:15).
