Joan Laporta spoke about Barcelona’s intention, but there will also be contact with the player in order to proceed with the construction.
The president of Barcelona announced the plan to create a statue of Lionel Messi outside the new Camp Nou.
Joan Laporta emphasized: “Messi deserves to have his own statue outside the stadium. We will prepare a proposal, we will speak with the player and his family, and if they agree, we can move forward.” Social media are already filled with concept designs of Messi’s statue.
The Argentine footballer played for the Catalan club from 2004 to 2021. He appeared in 778 matches, scored 672 goals, and provided 303 assists.
With Barcelona, he won the Champions League four times. He did not leave the club in the best way in 2021, as he wished to stay, and he recently returned to Barcelona and visited the under-construction Camp Nou at night.
